Holi celebrations underway in India

Holi, the popular Hindu spring festival of colors, is observed in India at the end of the winter season on the last full moon of the lunar month and will be celebrated on March 16 this year.

In the holy city of Vrindavan, about 1,000 widows broke a centuries-old tradition and celebrated the spring color festival at Meera Sahabhagini Sadan. As per Indian tradition, widows are considered social outcasts and refrain from celebrating Holi. The event in Vrindavan was organized by a non-governmental organization, Sulabh.
